Discussion 3

This week you have studied cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and respiratory advanced physical assessment. What additional resources for these advanced health assessment skills have you found beneficial in developing your knowledge and psychomotor skills this week? N522PE Module 3 Discussion 3 & Assignment 2

In other words, please include primary sources and/or reliable electronic sources to support your arguments.

Remember to respond to at least two of your peers. Please refer to the Course Syllabus for Discussion Participation Guidelines & Grading Criteria.

Example Discussion Approach

Shadow health has been extremely helpful in identifying lung sounds normal and adventitious.  I feel like wheezing you hear all the time whether it be through auscultation or just audibly through the patient.  Crackles, rhonchi, and stridor I hear a lot less often.   The modules have been helpful in learning these sounds.  The school I feel kind of just gives you the groundwork to build on, but some of these interactive modules really enhance the learning experience.  You can read all the textbooks, but it doesn’t do any good when it comes to the real thing.   The same thing with the cardiovascular sounds I have had a very difficult time audible hearing abnormal heart sounds this module makes it much easier.  I think I will be able to take what I have learned here and apply much easier in my assessments of patients.   I think one huge factor I am also overcoming is the transition to distance learning.  Most masters programs have some form of distance learning included (Ramos-Morcillo, 2020).   Covid-19 has reinforced this in all spectrums of school from k-12, undergrad, to all grad level programs (Ramos-Morcillo, 2020).   Learning physical assessment I thought would be useless on the internet but as I am learning I feel I have a good foundation as long as I apply myself and carry over what I know to practice in the clinical setting it’s all about building a strong foundation.  I like it because it relies on the effort I give if I do the minimum it will be harder but incorporating the shadow health, YouTube, and other books have helped.  Without this environment, I may have never heard all the different heart sounds.  Even healthcare, in general, is shifting to online with a lot of things being tracked at home.  02 sats, heart rates, heart rhythms, blood sugars, and several other wearable devices are capable of transmitting info to providers.  Making it a more dynamic approach to health care.
