  1. The Board of Nursing (BON) distinguishes the BSN nurse from the ADN (diploma nurse) in four areas: nursing assessment, community health, research, and nursing leadership and management.  
  2. Peer-reviewed articles are the most solid research sources because they have gone through the stringent review of other experts in the field.  
  3. Flexner (1915) defined the characteristics of a profession, including a specified, unique body of knowledge and altruism, which are highly applicable to nursing.

 

 
  4. The American Nurses Association identifies the following ethical practices –

autonomy, veracity, justice, confidentiality, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and fidelity – that should be reflected in patient care delivery.

 
  5. Nursing theory, which encompasses philosophies, conceptual frameworks, and theories, develops knowledge as a basis for practice and provides a common language and decision-making process.

 

 
  6. A well-constructed research question is open-ended and identifies a topic for study.  
  7. The Nursing Process is a decision-making framework that follows a well-defined sequence and provides a systematic way of analyzing problems and situations.
