Page4Evaluate each vitamin and mineral using the following criteria: State your intake value of each vitamin/minerals (actual amounts with units) compared to the DRI goal. Make sure you give (denote) appropriate units of each vitamin and mineral (e.g. grams/milligrams/micrograms etc.) You will lose 0.5 per each unit for not denoting or not denoting units accurately. Compare your intake of each vitamin with the recommended DRI goal and state whether you met/did not meet/exceeded the recommendation for each vitamin and minerals. Explain why it is important to meet the goal for each vitamin/mineral. (Refer to Chapter 8 and 9 power point information). State any toxicity associated if you have exceeded your intake of vitamins/minerals. Two food sources for each vitamin and mineral.

 

Dietary Plan Analysis

 

  • Calories: Day 1 = 494 k/cal ; Day 2 = 391 k/cal   DRI goal = 885k/cal
  • My calories did not meet RDA recommendation of 2,000k/cal per day
  • If you have less 70% of your calories intake, recommended to study food with high calories content
  • Low calories intake can lead to anemia, fatigue, and abnormal metabolism.
  • Excessive Calorie intake will lead to obesity and body fat. Too much calories intake can lead to a fatty liver and high blood.

 

  • Protein Day 1 = 25g ; Day 2 = 21g    DRI goal = 42.46g
  • I am required to have 42.46-protein intake, did not meet RDA recommendation of 0.8 g/ kg body weight
  • If you have exceeded protein consumption, drink water and check the food dietary plan to reduce the food intake w/ high protein. Low protein content are fruits and vegetables. (except peas, beans, dried fruit and corn)
  • Health risk of too much protein in the body can lead to a kidney disease, diabetic nephropathy, phenylketonuria and homocystinuria.
  • Meat and fish is a good source of protein

 

  • Carbohydrates Day 1 =36g (31%); Day 2 =31g (27%) DRI goal = 116.14g
  • Carbohydrate intake do not meet RDA Recommendation of 45 to 65 %, Carbohydrates intake should be at least 5 g/ kg body weight.
  • Most important is the type of carbohydrates you choose to eat rather than the amount of carbohydrates in the food.
  • Fiber and starch are the two main sources of complex carbohydrates

 

  • Dietary Fiber Intake Day 1 = 3.0g;  Day 2 = 2.3g    DRI goal = 11.82g
  • Dietary Fiber Intake do not meet RDA Recommendation of 25 – 30 g per day
  • Eat more fruit and vegetables rich in fiber, it is important to meet the fiber intake to maintain bowel movement, lower the cholesterol level and for longer life.
  • Two good sources of fiber are Oatmeal and raspberries.

 

  • Calories from Saturated fat Day 1 = 81.04g ;  Day 2 = 77.02g    DRI goal = 76.02g
  • Calories from Sat fat exceeded the AHA recommendation of 30 -35 % of energy intake from the total fat
  • Avocados and Cheese are the two good sources of saturated fats
  • Too much saturated fats can cause heart disease and stroke.

 

  • Water intake Day 1= 51.23 oz. Day 2 =47.61 oz.               DRI goal = 95.23 oz (2700 g)
  • Water intake do not RDA recommendation of 91.297oz (2.7 L) per day
  • Try calorie flavored water to help satisfy the water intake. Also, make time schedule to drink water every period.
  • Low water intake may cause dehydration, fatigue and headache.
