Keiser Advancement in Technology Has Offered Significant Improvements Discussion

Description

Post your initial response to one of the two topics below.

Topic 1

Simulation technology has been transformative in nursing education. Through the use of simulation, nurses can repeatedly practice skills and gain clinical confidence in a risk-free environment. Simulation, however, is not just for health care professionals.

How can nurses leverage simulation technology for patient and family education? (Include your rationale.)
Share your experiences and ideas for leveraging simulation technology for patient education.

Topic 2

IT can be a great tool in our caring environment, but it can also be perceived as a hindrance. Recent patient satisfaction surveys have had comments such as “the nurse and the doctor were more interested in the computer than me” and “I felt like they were treating the machines not the person connected to them.”

You read in your textbook about Jean Watson and her Theory of Human Caring.

How can we, as nurses, ensure that the patient understands that he or she is at the center of our care and that the technology is an adjunct to it? (Include your rationale.)

Share your experiences and ideas to ensure a patient-focused experience in a high-tech environment.

Theoretical Insights into Practice and Research

In the field of public health, there are four common theories. The Trans-theoretical Stages of Change, the Health Belief Model, the Theory of Planned Behavior, and the Theory of Reasoned Action are the four theories. Although these are not the only theories employed in public health, they are the most common. As a future public health leader, you must understand these four widely accepted ideas in order to comprehend what motivates and encourages individuals to change their behavior or views in relation to public health challenges. Use the Walden library to find one article for each theory or one article that examines all of the theories and summarizes the content for this Application Assignment. Concentrate on how the theory was implemented in practice and how this knowledge might assist you in developing your public health campaign. Day 6: Submit the assignment (4-5 pages). Choose one article to cover each of the following theories: Theory of Reasoned Action, Health Belief Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, and Trans-theoretical Stages of Change, or one article to cover all of them. Explain how each theory is used in practice. Describe two of each theory’s advantages; Explain at least two of each theory’s limitations. Choose one theory to use in the development of your public health campaign and explain why you chose it. Glanz, K., Rimer, B. K., and Viswanath, K. (Eds.). Glanz, K., Rimer, B. K., and Viswanath, K. Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.

Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.

I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!

The use of theory, as well as explanation assistance

The Application of Theory For a variety of reasons, applying a theory to the formulation of a public health campaign is critical. First, it provides insight into why and how individuals behave as they do, as well as what motivates them to change. Second, it assists you in creating a campaign by assisting you in determining which topics are most important to address. Third, it assists you in determining which tactics are most effective in reaching out to a variety of people. Finally, it acts as a guide to individual behavior, allowing you to figure out what kind of behavior change you want to see and how your public health campaign can help you achieve it (Glanz, Rimer & Viswanath, 2015). Consider why theory is important in public health practice and how you may incorporate theory into the development of your public health campaign for this discussion. K. Glanz, B. K. Rimer, and K. Viswanath (Eds.). Glanz, Rimer, and Viswanath (Eds.). Glanz, Rimer, Rimer, Rimer, Rimer, Rimer, Rimer, Rimer, Rimer (2015). Theory, study, and practice of health behavior (5th ed.). Jossey-Bass, San Francisco, CA. With the following considerations in mind: By the third day, write a brief explanation of why theory is crucial in public health practice. Then explain why you’ll use theory in your public health campaign in two different ways.

TODAY’S HIGHLY demanding healthcare environment requires effective critical thinking and clinical skills for optimal patient outcomes in complex care situations. To bridge the gap between nursing students and newly graduated nurses, the nursing faculty must foster clinical skills acquisition to avoid medical errors. Using simulation technology allows nursing students to apply knowledge and skills to transfer theory into clinical practice. This article discusses a study to assess the perceived competency of junior and senior nursing students in clinical behaviors and skills.

Background

Newly graduated nurses enter the clinical setting with little experience and many expectations placed upon them. Proficiency in basic clinical skills, critical thinking, and healthcare decision-making have been identified as gaps that need improvement among these nurses. The greatest areas for improvement among recent nursing graduates include safe medication administration; failure to rescue; patient falls; risk management; and multitasking, prioritizing, and delegating responsibilities. Although these nurses may enter clinical settings with extensive theoretical knowledge, procedural competence is critical for a successful transition into practice.

Medical errors represent the third leading cause of death in hospitals, and school of nursing (SON) teaching faculties must foster clinical competence to reduce errors and promote positive patient outcomes. In response to the changing needs of patients and the complexities of nursing practice, a transformation in nursing education is necessary.

Educators can use simulation technology to observe and document nursing students’ competence in clinical skill acquisition. Deliberate practice is defined as activities to improve performance. It includes feedback on students’ actual performance compared with their desired performance, providing opportunity for repetition until they achieve their educational goals. This feedback facilitates the development of sound clinical practice habits.

To date, no best-practice model for simulation training is available and debriefing is often disregarded in research. In the study described below, the authors used the clinical competency questionnaire (CCQ) to assess improvements in clinical competence among junior and senior nursing students before and after simulation training and clinical practicum experience.
