Modern Civilization in Greek
Modern Civilization in Greek
It can generally be accepted that the Mycenaean Civilization had a significant impact on the modern civilization in Greece. To begin with is the Greece architectural designs which have flourished in modern Greece and Italy up to date. These designs have special characteristics in decoration and structure. For instance in construction of temples, they are built to appear to have been conceived as a sculptural entity within the landscape, raised on high ground so that the stylishness of its magnitudes and light effects on its surfaces is clear from all angles which has shaped construction of modern temples (Ferguson 1999). Modern architectural designs adopted from the Proto- Greek designs have remained relevant not only in designs but also the concept of architectural beauty both in Greece and Rome.
Increase in population led to growth and prosperity of Mycenaean culture which resulted in social stratification due to development of a settlement hierarchy. Discovery of Tholo Tombs in modern day Greece is clear evidence of social classes as they were used to bury those in upper class (HANSEN 1992). In modern Greece the society is stratified into three stratified groups; the upper class, middle class and the lower class which can be traced back to the Proto-Greek Civilization era where it all started.
The Mycenaean’s exercised a sacramental founded religion which was steered by a powerful priest class in possession of land and to some extent exercised a significant amount of political power. The Mycenaean ancestors worshipped Zeus who was at the head of the classical Greek Pantheon which could be a bit different from the classical Greek religion but they follow the same deities.
Just like their Mycenaean ancestors who were industrious in terms of trading, classical Greeks improved on the ability to trade with other non-Greek people (Hornblower 2019). Through trade they were able to expand their influence in Egypt and Anatolia incorporating their culture into the Bronze Age system between 1400BC-1200Bc.
In conclusion the Mycenaean language underwent an improvement in sound in the classical Greek which are peculiar to the Greek language. For instance the morphological variations whereby the usage of -eus are used to yield agent nouns and the third person singular ending -ei.
