Scenario # 1

Health Care Delivery Competency and Independent Practice Competency.

1. Give a brief overview of your 2 assigned  core competencies.

2. Reflect on all of the reading you did this semester. Integrate some highlights from these readings that exemplify how APN’s  support these particular competencies in our daily practice

3.according to NSG 517 Final Project Milestone, APRNs have been permitted by organized medicine and state legislative bodies to provide care to the underserved poor, particularly in rural areas of the nation. Briefly outline how this concept has helped or delayed the progress of advanced practice nurses as primary care providers. Identify forces that are barriers to our advanced practice from your course readings. How can  we as a profession  work to overcome these barriers?

4. How can an APN nursing student begin to support the APN profession? Can you identify a specific example of something you may like to get involved in at your place of work or school as a student to support the APN role that you may not have considered before this course? What professional organizations might you consider joining?

Scenario # 2

Technology and Informational Literacy competency and Practice Inquiry Competency.

1. Give a brief over view of the 2 competencies you have been assigned for your presentation. 

2. Reflect on all of the reading you did this semester. Integrate some highlights from these readings that exemplify how APN’s  support these particular competencies in our daily practice.

3. After graduation, new APRN graduates face the transition from the student role to the APRN role as stated in NSG 517 Final Project Milestone.  APRN graduates can experience attitudinal, behavioral, and value conflicts as they move from the academic world, where holistic care is highly valued, to the work world, where organizational efficiency is paramount. What are some strategies the graduate APN can use to facilitate this role transition?

4. Identify a key piece of technology you learned about in this course that has expanded or enhanced the advanced role.  How can this help your current RN practice and help ease the transition to the APN role?

Leadership Competency and Ethics Competency

3. It is clear that all nurses are moral agents and should use ethical decision-making skills in their practices as seen in NSG 517 Final Project Milestone. What is different about the APRN competency of ethical decision making from the ethics competency that all nurses should possess?  What can APNs do to strengthen the moral agency of practicing nurses?

4. Identify a key piece of course content that has impacted your leadership ability as an RN. How will this help ease and prepare you for the APN role?

Scientific Foundation Competency and  Policy Competency

3. APRN’s must practice political competence in the policy arena.  How can we do this? Highlight and summarize a couple current APN policy issues.

4. How can APRN’s move forward and strengthen evidence informed policy making? What part of this process do you see your self as a new grad APN comfortable participating in that you may not have felt comfortable with before taking this course?

Scenario # 5

Quality competency and  Scientific Foundation Core competency.

1. Give a brief over view of the 2 competencies you have been assigned for your presentation.

2. Reflect on all of the reading you did this semester. Integrate some highlights from these readings that exemplify how APN’s  support these particular competencies in our daily practice

3. Outcomes evaluation and ongoing performance assessment are essential to survival and success of APRN. Identify the current focus on outcomes of care in health care. Tell us about the outcome measures. Why do we measure outcomes and why is it important? What has been the assessment of APRN performance to date?

4. Give an example of how you, as a graduate APRN, can promote  future directions for using outcomes in APRN Practice. Identify how this knowledge has impacted or changed your current practice as an RN and will help ease and prepare you for the APN role?

Assignment details below. This assignment is due by midnight Wednesday in module 7.

This final project has been designed to help culminate the content of this course as it relates to the NONPF Core Competencies.  As you are working on your project, the NONPF core competencies document will be an important reference as will be your Hamric and Hanson’s textbook and Canvas resources.  according to NSG 517 Final Project Milestone, You are not required to use any outside resources.  We are looking to see that you understand the competencies and how to support the competencies that are the foundation of your advanced practice.  Please be sure to review the rubric for this assignment.

You are going to create a 10 minute narrated powerpoint presentation on the topic you signed up for in Module 1.  You will post your narrated PPT to the designated Discussion Board by midnight Friday.  You will also give a brief peer review discussion board response for 2 of your peers.   as stated in NSG 517 Final Project Milestone, they must be from 2 different scenarios and not the same scenario you signed up for.   For example, if you chose to present scenario # 1, you may choose to do a peer review on a presentation from scenario # 2 and #4..  You will not review  anyone who presented the same scenario as you.  They should each be for 2 different scenarios and you will not give a peer review on someone who did the same scenario you presented and you will not do 2 peer reviews on the same scenario . That means you will give 2 peer reviews in total.  Your peer review should be no longer than 1-2 brief paragraphs. Please choose peer presentations that do not have 2 comments already.  See the rubric for the required elements which includes the peer review for this assignment.   When you post your narrated PPT to DB  please label it with your name and scenario #. For example – I would label my presentation Tracy Hardy Scenario # 1. Please complete your peer responses by midnight Friday.
