Serving is a very different concept from what we typically think of when we think of power in the secular sense.
Look at any corporation or business and you’ll see that the secular view of power is simple to grasp.
Powerful people have titles that carry a lot of weight.
They can use that authority to impose their will on individuals.
As long as you’re in power, you don’t have to do anything for the people around you (Brown, 2016).
When a leader practices servant leadership, he or she takes on the role of the one being served.
With their team’s development and performance in mind, the leader places their own needs above those of their subordinates.
For the most part, the principles of servant leadership place emphasis on encouraging employees to develop and realize their full potential while also providing the company with the resources it needs to be successful (Lindsey, 2019).
