My Personal Philosophy
Working as a nurse does not imply that you are a nurse. Just because you’ve mastered the manual tasks doesn’t mean you have the inner qualities of a nurse. Becoming a nurse improves these characteristics.
Nursing “will always be an unfinished business because conditions change from one era to the next and with culture or society’s nature” (Henderson, 1964, p. 63). Nursing is an art form that incorporates patient care into its practice. The goal of this paper is to share these qualities as well as personal philosophy gained from experiences.
Getting a Job as a Nurse
Because nurses seemed to be in high demand, I decided to pursue a career in nursing. I wanted something with a purpose, something that would make a difference and provide a daily challenge. I am the only person in my family who has chosen to pursue a career in nursing. I had no idea what to expect or if nursing was something I could do. I had learned the necessary skills to function as a nurse while in nursing school, but something I discovered was the amount of caring that was involved in nursing.
By caring, I mean the feeling you get when you can put yourself in the shoes of your patients.

You will provide a framework for your personal nursing practice and reflect on why you chose nursing as a profession in this paper. Your paper will describe your interactions with patients, family members, other nurses, and other health care professionals.
Since this is your first formal paper for the program, be sure to use the resources listed below to ensure you are using the proper APAformatting, title page, and scholarly language. The utilization of APA format adds structure, organization and professionalism to your writing. Correct APA format is expected throughout the RN-BSN program.

• Use the following outline to guide composition of your personal philosophy of nursing.
• Follow both the content and format criteria in completing your composition.
• Open a new Word document, and save it to your Desktop with the filename, “yourname_Personal_Philosophy,” inserting your name in place of “yourname.”
• Begin your paper by setting the margins, font, and Header. (See MS Word Help)
• Depending on your version of MS Word, there is assistance for APA Format under the Reference header as you are creating your paper. Choose APA 7th Edition. (See MS Word Help)
