NURS 350 WCU Research in Nursing Variables Statistics And Sample Size Discussion
Select one qualitative and one quantitative question that you are interested in investigating. Identify the independent and dependent variables. Next, create a hypothesis or set of hypotheses to go along with your research question. Identify your hypothesis as one of each of the four categories below and explain why your hypothesis fits into these categories (hint: review chapter 3).
- Associative or causal
- Simple or complex
- Nondirectional vs. directional
- Null vs. research
PLEASE TRY TO MAKE IT RELATED TO NURSING THANK YOU
Be sure to apply concepts from your readings and research. You must cite at least one source: your textbook and/or scholarly resources in APA style.
THESE ARE EXAMPLES
You will want to recall the purposes of these two research types to formulate appropriate questions. You will provide 1 qualitative question and one quantitative question.
Qualitative questions often begin with “How” or “What”. Avoid “Why questions” which denote cause and effect questions. Include what you want to explore, discover, identify, describe or generate. Example: What is the lived experience of an older person’s experience with Covid and separation from loved ones?
Quantitative questions usually begin with “How”, “What” or “Why.” Include and identify the independent and dependent variables. Since the prompt is asking you to identify an independent and dependent variable, we recall it must be an experimental or quasi-experimental question with an intervention.
A quantitative research hypothesis is a statement that is an answer to your quantitative research question.
For example: Why do facilities with BSN prepared nurses(IV) have better patient outcomes (DV)? My hypothesis (what I predict) and the answer to my quantitative research question: BSN prepared nurses with advanced critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills improve patient outcomes.
The type of research hypothesis will be one of EACH of these pairs. In my example, it is a causal complex directional research hypothesis and then I would support with my rationale.
Note: A null hypothesis says there is no relationship so us
