Assignment: Balancing Employee Satisfaction and The Bottom Line Essay
Assignment: Balancing Employee Satisfaction and The Bottom Line Essay
Description
Review the position paper assignment that is due in Module Seven. For the position paper, you will make value judgments about prevailing debates in the field. While you will be relying more on your personal viewpoints, you must still substantiate claims with logic, reason, and evidence. This is your opportunity to engage in independent research. This assignment is made of two components. The literature review for your position paper is due in this module, and the position paper is due in Module Seven.
For this task, conduct a literature review of at least five appropriately cited, peer-reviewed journal articles. This literature review is used as a framework for the position paper.
Both employees and employers have needs to meet. Employees have families, events and outside work activities they consider important. Organizations have products and services to deliver to customers and obligations to investors and stockholders. Recognizing this tension, some employers are implementing more creative approaches to achieve a happy medium. They have learned that unhappy, dissatisfied employees are not productive and creative.
1.
Communicate with employees to identify and implement the support they say they need. Educate them on policies currently available
to them. For example, perhaps the company has a policy allowing a given number of hours for community volunteer work. Another policy may allow time off for parents to attend their children’s school activities.
2.
Provide appropriate support for employees working rotating shifts. For example, companies may decrease the need for split shifts (working mornings and evenings) and provide more notice about shift time changes to give employees the opportunity to plan and make arrangements. Some companies may also allow for employees to swap shift times when facing a family activity or special event. The advantage to the organization is less absenteeism and more positive attitudes toward work.
3.
Schedule flexible hours. Thus, employees driving children to school may come later and stay longer. Some companies may allow a 40-hour week in four 10-hour shifts. This provides a three-day weekend, facilitating more family or personal time. The advantage to the organization is decreased tardiness and stress over getting the children to school.
4.
Allocate paid time off for employees to use as they desire. Some companies provide a certain number of days for all-purpose use: vacation, sickness, mental health or whatever is deemed necessary. Another idea is to provide a paid day for doctor or dentist visits. Having an on-site gym is another way to encourage wellness, along with workshops on eating healthy and smoking cessation. Good health support may lead to less absences and illnesses.
5.
Plan organizational meetings away from work. Some companies invite families to meeting sites both fun and productive. For example, a company may rent cottages at the beach with planned activities for the families while employees meet on business. The advantage to the organization is time getting better acquainted with families who are also made to feel like part of the company.

Plagiarism is highly prohibited. Please ensure you are citing your sources correctly using APA 7th edition. All assignments including discussion posts should be formatted in APA with the appropriate spacing, font, margin, and indents. Any papers not well formatted would be returned back to you, hence, I advise you review APA formatting style. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.
Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
