Computer Technology
The advancement in technology has been taking place since time immemorial. It dates back from the invention of items such as knives and spears made out of rocks. In the recent past advancement in technology has been remarkably fast with the computer technology being produced and improved over time. Computer technology comprises of inventions related to computers with a dominant processing unit such as hardware and software of computers and the internet. Computer technology has a myriad of advantages such as helping individuals to interact and reconnect with their friends and relatives through platforms such as Twitter. Besides, platforms such as Google maps direct individuals from one place to another. However, computer technology has disadvantages such as minimizing socialization due to the urge of being on phone. Besides, computer technology exposes people’s personal lives.
The internet as a global network connecting many people has revolutionized the world significantly. Internet set the stage for the invention of products such as telephones, digital televisions, and radios. Through the internet, dissemination of information through interaction among individuals without considering geographical location has been made possible (Association for Career and Technical Education 6). The internet allows individuals to acquire information, knowledge and learning. It contains an endless supply of knowledge that allows individuals to extract knowledge regarding any topic of interest.
Communication have been made effective by the internet. During medieval times, it would take a couple of days or months to deliver a message from one person. However, delivering a message nowadays is pretty fast which is attributed to the availability of the internet (UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATION 72). For instance, sending a text message or an email to an individual in any part of the world is possible within a few minutes. Other related forms of communication such as WhatsApp and snap chat allow individuals to convey instant communication with anyone in the world.
The internet also allows individuals to carry out money transactions online without necessarily visiting the bank. As a result, individuals can view their balances and cater to their bills electronically. Also, people can do online shopping without necessarily visiting the market or stores (Yadav 857). Individuals are also able to compare different products and prices by getting oversight by checking what other people think about the products in question.
The internet has made it possible for people to work with other individuals all over the world in the comfort of their homes. Different online services have made it possible for people to have instant communication through which people can order and sell products wherever they are. Employers are also able to get employees online if in need and vice versa. Although the internet has a myriad of advantages, it also has some significant disadvantages. As a result of presence of personal information in the social media, some individuals have found themselves as victims of stalkers. This has led to the loss of lives of some of the victims (Yadav 856). Additionally, these platforms have been used to conduct illegal businesses such as money laundering and drug trafficking.
The internet has played a pivotal role in identity theft, hacking, and cheating. Due to the availability of many computers, people’s accounts are hacked and personal information stolen and used for identity theft (Yadav 856). Cases of exam cheating in institutions of learning have also been attributed to the presence of the internet. Students can access the internet and search for answers in search engines such as Google.
The internet has also played a substantial role in the escalation of depression, loneliness, and isolation. People are deeply engrossed in their gadgets such that they fail to relate with their fellow human beings face to face. They, therefore, fail to share issues affecting them hence the growth of depression and loneliness. Such situations finally lead to cases of suicide and death.
Staying a day without technology is humiliating. For instance, staying without the internet means there is no instant communication and many activities that require the internet will remain closed. Business people and the society at large incurs great loses as a result. Lack of instant communication means people will have to use other modes of communication such as letters that are not effective. Individuals will, therefore, have to carry cash with them to pay the bills (Yadav 855). Besides, online shopping is affected by a lack of technology as people cannot order and pay for different goods. In a nutshell, going a day without technology is discriminating and retrogressive.
In conclusion, technology has played a significant role in revolutionizing the world. Individuals have been able to send and receive instant messages from their friends and relatives across the globe due to technology. People are also able to work in the comfort of their homes without necessarily going to the office. Although computer technology and especially the internet has many advantages, it also has disadvantages. As a result of the internet, people are not able to relate which leads to depression and isolation and also cases of cheating in learning institutions.
