Qualitative research question: What are the implications of workplace racism on the people of color?

Aburto, R., & Thawe, N. (2019). Unconscious Bias in the Profession. Gowling WLG. (n.d.). Diversonomics. https://www.diversonomics.com/

This study examines diversity, inclusion, and bias in the workplace. Following the article, an individual can realize that diversity encompasses individuals with a variety of inherent factors and acquired factors. Inclusion involves creating an environment in which individuals feel respected and valued. Alternatively, bias encompasses a mental shortcut that influences decisions and behaviors. This source is substantial in my study as it makes it possible for individuals to realize that legal professionals in Canada are required to create and abide by an individual statement of principles that acknowledges their obligations to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. Therefore, every legal officer should ensure that no individual is discriminated against based on skin color to avoid unconscious bias and its impacts. Through the article, an individual can realize that unconscious biases and assumptions impact individuals’ ability to be inclusive. Also, unconscious bias hinders organizations in their attempt to create a safer and more inclusive environment.   The article is also essential in my study as it makes it possible for an individual to discover that they can avoid bias at the workplace by developing a nudge that helps people address their behavioral change by disrupting things they think and do unconsciously.

This article examines the supposed challenges that foreigners and especially Latin American immigrants face in the Canadian job market. This is following an interview with 20 Latin American MBA graduates from Canada. The researcher actively engaged in analyzing the interviews for emergent categories and common themes. Following the article, the researcher was able to discover that despite the individuals’ academic qualifications, they found it hard to secure employment in Canada due to factors like cultural differences, language barriers, discrimination and lack of networks. The researcher also discovered that the victims’ professional success in Canada was significantly influenced by their Latin American background. Through an examination of the Latin American immigrants, the article explored individual views of immigrants living and working in Canada.    This source is therefore significant in my study as it makes it possible for one to examine the challenges experienced by immigrant professionals in Canada.  For instance, professionals often receive mixed reactions from their employers regarding the value of their credentials, thus making it hard for them to determine their worth in the labor market. Some cannot land work because they have no PHD while others are told they are overqualified for other work because of their master’s degree.

This article focuses on the experiences of racism victims and especially Black youths in the workplace in Canada.  The article makes good use of qualitative analysis by interviewing 24 young Black individuals aged 16-35 years in Canada through which they are able to realize the effects of dominant cultural narratives on black people living and working in Canada. The researcher presented his findings using dramatic games as a key theoretical metaphor. As a result, the researcher is able to conclude that cultural narratives play an essential role on relational dynamics of discrimination in the workplace. Therefore, following this article, one can recognize the fact that the standards of professionalism in Canada are heavily defined by white supremacy culture.   This article is therefore important in my study as it makes it possible for an individual to explain why dominant cultural narratives trigger instances of racism in the workplace. For instance, one is able to realize that pro-white bias is largely shared through the media. Television shows overwhelmingly feature white males as competent leaders as opposed to black men. This gives the impression that only white men can make good leaders while blacks are only suited to be servants.

This article examines an initial study on how immigrant professionals from Hong Kong to Canada make sense of their experiences. The researcher made good use of interviews by conducting an interview with 12 individuals from Chinese Communities living in Canada. Following this source, an individual is able to realize that there is a dire need for the international community to understand the needs of immigrants not only in Canada but also other parts of the world. This source is important to my study as it makes it possible for an individual to explain why immigrants’ identities and self-worth are based on their integration level into mainstream society. Also, one can realize that the impact of the hidden discourse has been to disregard some settlers concerning workplace opportunities. Besides, the article is very essential in my study as it makes it possible for an individual to explain immigrants’ different reactions to contextual barriers. For instance, Chinese immigrants’ incapacity to fully utilize their skills in Canada is due to their perception of the country as a provisional stop to earn money.  However, immigrants can start their own businesses instead of seeking employment.

Welcome to esearchgate.net. https://esearchgate.net/publication/12787627_Perceived_Racial_Discrimination_Depression_and_Coping_A_Study_of_Southeast_Asian_Refugees_in_Canada

This study tests hypothesis concerning the relationship between supposed racism and depression and the role of ethnic identity in conditioning the nature of the discrimination-depression relation. The researcher conducted an interview with 647 refugees from South East Asia but living in Canada. The study involved testing a hypothesis regarding the correlation between perceived racial discrimination and depression. Following the article, individuals who reported to have experienced discrimination based on their racial affiliations were found to have a higher likelihood of suffering from depression than those who did not report cases of racial discrimination.  This source is therefore important in my study as it makes it possible for an individual to explain the correlation between racial discrimination at the workplace and the prevalence of depression in the workplace.  For instance, immigrants who are racially abused at their place of work feel pressured to perform to avoid being scolded for underperforming. Excessive pressure can lead to ill health as these individuals have higher chances of suffering from anxiety and eventually depression. Also, the article is essential as it gives remedies to racism at work place. Imbedding anti-racism into the organizational values can be essential in reducing racism in the workplace.
