She is a graduate student at The Ohio State University and lives with two roommates in an apartment at 1635 Indianola Avenue in Columbus, Ohio, 43201. Her PMH includes asthma diagnosed when she was 5 years old.  You have decided to prescribe an antidepressant and she requests a two-month supply. Assignment Description

Students will demonstrate skill and critical thinking by writing three medication scripts based on given scenarios. (Course Objectives 4-8).

Assignment Objectives

For each assignment, the student will:

  1. Synthesize knowledge and techniques about writing psychopharmacologic prescriptions;
  2. Integrate synthesized knowledge with information from various scenarios consistent with cultural competence;
  3. Demonstrate ability to write prescriptions safely; and
  4. Select appropriate patient education topics related to the prescription given the scenario.

Assignment Steps

To complete each assignment:

  1. Download the prescription template from the Assignments section of Blackboard.
  2. Read the appropriate scenario.
  3. Complete the requested prescription(s) using the downloaded template.
  4. Add the notation requested in the scenario.
  5. Save the file as an MS Word (Office 365) file with the file name N7310_20_RX#_LastName.docx where # is the assignment number (1, 2, or 3), LastName is your last name, and underscores (Shift-hyphen) instead of any spaces.
  6. Upload the file using the Assignments feature in Blackboard.

Assignment Scenarios

For these scenarios, presume that you are licensed as an APRN-CNP in the State of Ohio, nationally board-certified as a PMHNP-BC, you have a signed Standard Care Arrangement that includes Schedule II prescribing, and that you are registered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for Schedules II, III, IV, and V. Use the MS Word file in the Assignments as your prescription template.

Each of 3 prescription assignments is worth 25 points for a total possible assignment score of 75 points.  Each prescription will be graded according to the following rubric:

Completeness The scripts include all recommended components: Name, address, age, date, medication, dose and/or strength, route, number dispensed (or other pharmacy directions), sig, refills, and script addresses whether generic or brand version is permitted and includes purpose of the script. 15 points < 15 points
Safety The script does not include “problematic” abbreviations, or trailing zero after a decimal point, or incorrect dosing. 5 points < 5 points
