I got used to seeing him, I even named him Taki. One day I go out and see Taki but he is doing this weird twisting thing in the water. I paddle over and I see he got a red marine rope made of hemp wrapped around his neck and one of his fins. I freaked out and tried to get it off with my paddle but it did not work. I jumped in the water tried to save him but he disappeared under the water and I never saw him again. Since this incidence I swore to myself that I was going to study anything related to medicine. I settled to nursing believing and hoping that if Taki ever resurfaced again I would be able to apply my expertise and save him. 2. Discuss the value of best evidence as a driving force in delivery of nursing care at your facility. Nursing is the profession of providing health care to the needy. American nursing association defines nursing as the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations. Nursing is a career path chosen by many, me being one of them. Research conducted by Columbia University- my former nursing school- shows that nursing is one of the fastest growing professions within the United States, with an unemployment rate of only 2% and a median salary of nearly $66,000 each year. Although it’s tougher to enter healthcare industry, holding a nursing degree will make it easier. Columbia University is one of the top nursing schools in the nation and teaches one all the aspects of being a nurse and being good at it. What safeguards and decision-making support tools are embedded in patient care technologies and information systems that support safe practice at your facility? Appropriate platforms for most and delicate technologies in the hospitals are the safest practice mostly advised and advocated in hospitals. Another major safe practice mostly used in hospitals is education to all healthcare providers. All healthcare providers are given proper education on how to use and operate the technological equipment’s in the hospitals in order to avoid damages and any related fatal incidences. 4. Tell me about patient care technologies that have improved patient care at your facility. Today healthcare is met with many fatal damages and shortage of healthcare providers to cater the outgrowing population of the people in need of healthcare especially the aging population. For example, the major cause of fatal damages in most hospitals is caused by prescribing errors. Prescribing errors in hospitals is a common problem in mostly general hospitals and few cases found in private hospitals. Prescribing errors in hospitals include wrong administering of drugs; oral or injections, to inpatients, lack of understanding of what is written on the prescribing notes for the patients, nurses and pharmacists’ ignorance and violation of prescribing rules due to busy working conditions. Prescribing errors is a major and increasing problem in hospitals today. To eliminate this and many other problems that’s where technology comes in handy. The most efficient and commonly used technology in this organization is HIMS which stands for hospital information and management system. HIMS is software that integrates all functioning of the hospital right through from registration of an out-patient to an in-patient and takes a patient through all departments of the hospital without physical movement. Telehealth and telemedicine equipment are also commonly in our facility. These equipment’s have greatly improved service giving in our hospital. They reduce prescribing errors and provide efficient services to our clients. 5. What groups of healthcare workers rely on you to collect high-quality information or data and how is it utilized? Some of the organizations of healthcare workers who rely on my information and our data includes: The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Please share an example of how GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) impacted a decision related to your information or data collection. 3. Please give me an example of how the lack of interprofessional collaboration impacted your role. Prescribing errors is common in most hospitals and can cost someone their career and license. I was a victim of prescribing errors due to a misunderstanding with an associate in the hospital. Prescribing errors is not only as a result of ignorance but also lack of knowledge and skills. Patients and other health practitioners lack enough and adequate knowledge and end up making prescribing errors. Different departments in the hospitals also contribute to prescribing errors differently. Some departments in hospitals require high demand of prescribed medicines than other departments; such departments like ICU require a lot of prescribed medicine in a day. This contributed to the mistake of prescribing errors and I nearly lost my license. Lack of knowledge on upgrading and new type of medicines coming up on daily basis may also contribute to prescribing errors. In order to avoid this mistake awell-planned implementation process for the education solution on prescribing errors in hospitals should be formulated. 4.
