Chavez Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90033 Dear Nurse Recruiter, In December 2012, I will be graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from West Coast University and will be taking the NCLEX-RN Exam in February 2013. I am extremely interested in applying to your New RN Graduate Residency Program, and believe that I have the enthusiasm, willpower, and experiences of a wellrounded nurse that will be beneficial to your unit and patients of all ages. My goal is to contribute to White Memorial Medical Center’s passion for excellence and commitment to medical education in the midst of remarkable Christian service. Throughout my journey as a student nurse, I have always been taught the importance of treating my patients with the utmost respect and compassion, and to serve them in their best interests. Not only that, but maintaining professionalism in all aspects of my work and care, and upholding the integrity of my actions and relationships with the healthcare team, are two very important values that I hold. As a senior BSN student preparing to graduate, I believe that by implementing these qualities together, I can provide my patients with the best and safest quality of care, completely centered on them, while creating long lasting partnerships with them in their journey to better health. During my internship as a Clinical Care Extender at St. Mary’s Medical Center, I received hands on experience with direct patient care as well as the opportunity to enhance my communication skills; two very crucial components of Nursing. This internship was a very important part of my educational career, as it contributed to my foundation in bedside manner. Individually, and in the group setting, I was able to collaborate with various members of the healthcare team, attributing to my competence and flexibility as a worker. In my current volunteer responsibilities at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, I am fortunate enough to experience the Administrative side of healthcare and together with the skills I have gained from my internship, I am better equipped to execute a holistic approach to patient care. It was and continues to be through the hospital setting that I am inspired by the strength of these patients. Nursing Resume and Cover Letter

I have a particular interest in medical surgical nursing and came across your program while searching for new opportunities to acquire professional clinical experience. As my current program comes to a close I understand the pivotal significance of gaining the clinical skills necessary to advance with any nursing specialty. It is my desire to expand upon my current knowledge and broaden the overall scope of my understanding. Your program embodies all the means necessary to effectively prepare for, and pursue a nursing career. It is my affirmation, if given the opportunity, to continue to deliver my passion for compassionate care throughout my experience of clinical discourse. My studies at West Coast University have contributed to the drive behind my pursuit of this career. I took a Med-Surge Clinical that dealt with critical care; for my clinical rotations I worked in ICU and Telemetry. I had the opportunity to study a plethora of diseases that dealt with critical care and I learned how important it is that a nurse possesses the ability to adapt to different cases. Each particular patient is a unique case and these courses have taught me to be sensitive towards their individual needs. I understand that a nurse must be able to retain a large amount of information and have the cognitive capacity to sort through all the information and apply it respectively. Also, successful nurses are those who can communicate effectively with patients as well as their colleagues. My tendency to pay close attention to detail, coupled with my compassion for care has enabled me to be accommodating to patients as much as feasibly possible. Further, my communication skills and professionalism in dealing with patient matters has prepared me to operate in a professional team environment. Throughout the years I have come to find that a nurse must be dedicated to caring for patients and to uphold the characteristics required of a nurse. I consider myself to have acquired such characteristics at a very young age. Growing up first generation in a Filipino-American household and caring for elderly family members on a regular basis provided the framework for my initial interest in nursing. It was not a surprise that I gravitated to this career path almost instinctively. Incarrying the experience of caring for my grandmother I have found that nursing suits my way of being. I’m excited at the opportunity to work side by side with a Registered Nurse in a sort of apprenticeship capacity and I anticipate the direct interaction with true enthusiasm.I know you will be receiving many applications, but no one will bring more dedication and desire to learn than I bring. I would be delighted to discuss my potential contributions to your program and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Jane Smith, BSN, RN …
