This internship was a very important part of my educational career, as it contributed to my foundation in bedside manner. Individually, and in the group setting, I was able to collaborate with various members of the healthcare team, attributing to my competence and flexibility as a worker. In my current volunteer responsibilities at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, I am fortunate enough to experience the Administrative side of healthcare and together with the skills I have gained from my internship, I am better equipped to execute a holistic approach to patient care. My tendency to pay close attention to detail, coupled with my compassion for care has enabled me to be accommodating to patients as much as feasibly possible. Further, my communication skills and professionalism in dealing with patient matters has prepared me to operate in a professional team environment. Throughout the years I have come to find that a nurse must be dedicated to caring for patients and to uphold the characteristics required of a nurse. I consider myself to have acquired such characteristics at a very young age. Growing up first generation in a Filipino-American household and caring for elderly family members on a regular basis provided the framework for my initial interest in nursing. It was not a surprise that I gravitated to this career path almost instinctively. Incarrying the experience of caring for my grandmother I have found that nursing suits my way of being.
