Elements of Leadership
Elements of Leadership
In the contemporary world, there exist different types of leaders. Each leader has his style of leadership, which plays an essential role in the progress or failure of an organization. Some of the leaders inspire their juniors by involving them in critical decision making in an organization. However, some of the leaders have total dominion over an organization and do not engage their juniors in decision making.
Managerial leaders are the first category of leaders. These kinds of leaders have the least influence in an organization. The desire for these leaders is to be served by others but not to help others. They, therefore, see other individuals in an organization as tools to use to achieve their objectives (Day, Fleenor, Atwater, Sturm & McKee, 2014). Alternatively, relational leaders aim at building relationships to influence others in an organization. Individuals in an organization seek to follow these leaders because of their character. They develop a mutual respect with others and work well with them. However, they fail to make the necessary sacrifices to build their competence.
Motivational leaders are another category of leaders. These kinds of leaders seek mutual respect for themselves, others and the organization. Individuals desire to follow them because of their character and the knowledge they possess (Day, Fleenor, Atwater, Sturm & McKee, 2014). They deliver positive results not only to themselves but their colleagues and the organization. However, they don’t mentor other motivational leaders.
On the other hand, inspirational leaders inspire other leaders. They are more focused on the people rather than the process. Alternatively, transformational leaders are the most influential. They have a reputation of developing other leaders.
Different elements guide leadership. For leadership to be effective, a leader must be transparent. The leader involves other workers in critical decision making through which individuals can know the progress of the organization (Day, Fleenor, Atwater, Sturm & McKee, 2014). Such leaders also embrace change. Confidence is another element of leadership. A good leader is confident and instils confidence in his workers. Workers cannot follow a leader who seems to lack confidence. Confident leaders make decisions and keep their word.
In conclusion, there are different types of leaders. Each leader has a different type of leadership style. However, all leaders should seek to inspire future leaders.
