Implementation of Information and Technology in Nursing

Nursing informatics applies technology to facilitate projects within different sectors within the medical facilities (Kang et al., 2021, p. 845). Information and technology and the integration of clinical expertise allow nurses to provide quality and timely health care. Due to the vulnerability of information and data, one should be very careful while conducting and evaluating information online while using nursing informatics. Assessing a project before the closure is equally important in ensuring that the process implemented was systematic and achieved the expected goals. One best practice in providing the evaluation and closure is ensuring that you bring everyone on board. A project can only be completed through communication and ensuring that everyone is in per’ with the goals and objectives of the project (Butt et al., 2016, p. 1579). Giving an account of how the task is performed and what is expected next provides the participants with the zeal and urge to implement another successful project.

In a world where technology is taking over the world, information systems have proven to support businesses. IT has given platforms to organizations to build their initiatives based on technology and organization operations. Therefore, establishing an organization’s success in IT is vital. Organizations should choose the best IT models that merge with their goals and objectives. Roy’s adaptation model is one of the models applied in nursing informatics, suggesting that human beings respond positively to things’ changing nature and development (Leroux, 2019, p. 14). In project management, the introduction of IT in nursing is simplified to make nurses competent and serve their patients with the utmost care. Thus, they slowly adapt to technology by learning what is expected from them and actualizing it for better quality care. Through project evaluation, nurses apply the models to ensure that the process is smooth and reliable.

On the other hand, project evaluation is a systematic appraisal of an ongoing project, which aims to examine the significance of adapting to a particular model in accomplishing the task. It aims to evaluate the project’s impacts within the facility, gather patients’ data, assess their healing progress, and analyze the next steps in the treatment process. The data collected from the project helps the nursing informatics manager develop strategies for providing quality care and the prevention measures to undertake in the future (Sohani, 2016, p. 50). The closure of a project offers a defined approach to how the facility should operate. Information technology, despite being complex for first-time users, constant use of the platforms enables one to be perfect daily.

Project closure is usually the last step of conducting a project. When a project manager is due to close the project, he is assured that the nurses with the health care facility are conversant with the information systems. They can depend on the knowledge they have acquired through the implementation of the project. Hence, the following are the actualized steps before the project’s closeout.

Gather feedback on the outcome. While establishing a project requires a lot of funding and learning, the closure process involves analyzing the input on how effective the method was. The gathering of feedback provides the project manager to develop better ways of making the process easier and more comfortable for people in the next project.

Release your team to implement what they have learned throughout the project management process. Every project comes to an end. Enabling the nurses to work on the project from a distance gives them the zeal to work towards making the project a success. However, as a project manager, one should be readily available to help where the need is. Adapting to nursing informatics systems is not an easy deal. Learning and becoming better is usually the order of the day. Establishing goals and objectives enables everyone in the team to work towards them.

Describe one model used to evaluate an IT project. Identify the meaning and relevance of “lessons learned” from project evaluation and the types of questions the nurse informatics specialist might use to gather information on lessons learned. Discuss the steps and process used to formally “close out” an IT project and why a formal close out is necessary to an IT project.
