Cultural Sensitivity-Health Disparities

Cultural Sensitivity-Health Disparities

Cultural Sensitivity-Health Disparities

Health disparities in the United States have continued to widen as the gap between rich and poor grows wider in society. To put it another way, Porche (2017) believes that nurses have become more conscious of the difficulties facing the health-care system, as well as the need for change. Many nurses have been inspired to become advocates as a result of their own personal experiences as registered nurses who are currently in practice. However, there are a variety of strategies that a nurse can use to exert influence over policy, including lobbying decision-makers. At the end of the day, lobbying decision makers is the most effective strategy a nurse can employ, as evidenced by the widespread acceptance of its benefits. Policymakers should be lobbied in order to influence their decisions.

Assignment Cultural Sensitivity Health Disparities

This is particularly important because it ensures that the final version of a policy captures substantive disparity issues that affect the health care industry (Barber, 2017). The use of lobbying ensures that nurses have an impact on the people who are important when it comes to the policy-making process, which is essential. Because lobbying is a two-way street, a nurse can always use it to either support or oppose a policy by engaging in lobbying. The ability to either oppose or support a policy ensures that the policy under consideration will attempt to address the challenges that the health care industry faces, such as a lack of coverage. Lobbying is also important because it ensures that policies that are detrimental to the widening of health disparities in the system are discarded and that a more appropriate policy is adopted. The current nurse chose lobbying because it is at the heart of the policy-making process, which she believes is important. Unlike other methodologies, which have an impact on the policy-making process when it is in its early stages, lobbying has an impact on the process when it is at its most critical stage, when it is enacted into law. As a result, the current nurse will ensure that only a version of a policy that addresses health disparities is passed by lobbying politicians and policy-makers.

There are many reasons why certain populations in our global society have diverse health outcomes. One major reason is whether or not a person has health insurance to coverage their health care (and access to proper health care).

Describe one strategy you would use as a professional nurse to influence and make policymakers aware of these issues to improve health outcomes. Why did you answer this way?

NU 665 C Week 6

NU 665 C Week 6

  1. What psychiatric symptoms and potential diagnoses may arise from the chronic dysregulation Dr. Perry refers to? How does developmental trauma impact psychiatric symptoms and diagnoses?

Dr. Perry’s theory of persistent dysregulation resulting from developmental trauma offers a crucial viewpoint on how it significantly impacts psychiatric symptoms and perhaps leads to psychiatric diagnoses in a person. The approach to promoting mental health may be enhanced by incorporating trauma-sensitive methods across different disciplines. This entails providing education and raising awareness among healthcare providers, including physicians, teachers, social workers, and other carers, as well as community officials. The goal is to enable them to identify cases or pupils who may have experienced trauma and to equip them with the necessary skills to effectively support and assist these individuals (Barnum & Perrone-McGovern, 2017). Communities can effectively combat the stigma surrounding mental health by establishing safe environments, promoting the utilisation of mental health services and experts, and empowering individuals who have endured traumatic events to embark on a healing journey.

Additionally, there is a correlation between major depressive illness and PTSS-IV, a type of mood disorder. Dysphoria and a sense of emptiness are two essential elements that should be taken into account when diagnosing a severe depressive disorder, and such a dysregulation of the emotional response is likely to produce these symptoms. Maladaptive schemas, such as those involving self-blame, self-hatred, worthlessness, helplessness, and mistrust of others, may also be impacted by child abuse or neglect. From the theories above, it may be concluded that these qualities, which include persistent melancholy, a loss of interest in once-enjoyable or appealing activities, and even suicidal thoughts, may aid in the explanation of depressed symptoms. Furthermore, the issue with regulating processes might result in emotional instability shown in the behaviours and impulsive characteristics of borderline personality disorder (BPD) (Bartlett et al., 2015). Their volatile self-perception, erratic and passionate interactions, and episodes of fury and persistent upheaval exemplify the impact of early trauma on personality stability.

  1. How can you integrate information from What Happened to You? Into patient education? Provide written education to your patient newly diagnosed with PTSD.

Receiving a diagnosis of PTSD might first evoke overwhelming emotions, but it is crucial to see them not as defects but rather as entirely typical responses to one’s past experiences. In the latest instalment of the television series “Fresh Start,” Oprah Winfrey engages in an interview with Dr Bruce Perry on the programme titled “What Happened to You?” During the discussion, they explore the impact of life experiences on our cognitive processes, emotions, and behaviours (Winfrey & Perry, 2021). They undergo a behavioural transformation, shifting from a self-defeating approach that questions, “What is wrong with you?” to a strengths-based approach that inquires, “What happened to you?” recognising that PTSD is a typical reaction to stressful events.

Gaining an understanding of the brain may be beneficial while dealing with PTSD since it can provide valuable insights to assist in managing the disease. This resource offers insights into the mechanisms of trauma, neuroplasticity, and stress, as well as strategies to facilitate healing and foster beneficial transformations. The Neurosequential Model is a valuable therapeutic intervention model that informs therapies based on the brain’s natural healing process (Winfrey & Perry, 2021). Therefore, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness treatments have been extensively researched and shown to be useful in regulating your nervous system and managing your symptoms.

  1. How can concepts from What Happened to You? be used for mental health

promotion/population health? (1-2 paragraphs)

The ideas given in “What Happened to You?” offer valuable guidance for promoting mental health and the well-being of whole communities. These ideas emphasise the need to shift the focus towards trauma-informed therapy and resilience-enhancing approaches. This strategy begins by reclassifying mental health problems, shifting from the medical model to a developmental model approach. The contrasting responses of “What happened to you?” and “What is wrong with you?” emphasise the significant role of trauma in individuals’ overall well-being (Winfrey & Perry, 2021). This shift contributes to the eradication of stigma. It promotes empathy, as it encourages others to be compassionate and supportive towards others who have had similar situations, ensuring they are accepted and provided with assistance in their journey towards recovery.

The approach to promoting mental health may be enhanced by using trauma-sensitive approaches across different sectors. This entails instructing and raising awareness among healthcare providers, including physicians, teachers, social workers, and other carers, as well as community officials, to identify cases or students who may have experienced trauma and to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively assist and provide support to them (Kiser et al., 2020). Communities can effectively combat the stigma surrounding mental health by establishing safe environments, promoting the utilisation of mental health services and experts, and empowering individuals who have endured traumatic events to embark on a journey of healing.

Week 6 Discussion 1: “What Happened to You?”

Value: 100 points

Grading Category: Discussions

Note: In this type of discussion, you will not see the responses of your classmates until after you have posted your own response to the following question.

Overview

When you are a psychiatric mental health provider, you will encounter difficult and uncomfortable situations where individuals have experienced different traumas. Experiences of childhood abuse and neglect are known antecedents to developing many mental health and substance use disorders. There is no real way to prepare or plan for exposure to these circumstances. This assignment will help you explain the role that trauma plays in psychiatric symptoms in a way that patients will understand.

Initial Post

On page 61, Dr. Perry writes, “So often when we ask, ‘What happened?’ we find a history of developmental trauma. Most people with ‘developmental adversity’ are chronically dysregulated – they tend to be wound up, anxious.” Dr. Perry addresses this impact of being chronically dysregulated in Chapter 2: Seeking Balance.

  1. What psychiatric symptoms and potential diagnoses may arise from the chronic dysregulation Dr. Perry refers to? How are psychiatric symptoms and/or diagnoses impacted by developmental trauma? (1-2 paragraphs)
  2. How can you integrate information from What Happened to You? into patient education? Provide written education to your patient newly diagnosed with PTSD. (1-2 paragraphs)
  3. How can concepts from What Happened to You? be used for mental health promotion/population health? (1-2 paragraphs)

You will need to cite at least two research-based resources for this assignment.

The field encompasses drug composition and properties, synthesis and drug design, molecular and cellular mechanisms, organ/systems mechanisms, signal transduction/cellular communication, molecular diagnostics, interactions, chemical biology, therapy, and medical applications and antipathogenic capabilities. The two main areas of pharmacology are pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Pharmacodynamics studies the effects of a drug on biological systems, and pharmacokinetics studies the effects of biological systems on a drug. In broad terms, pharmacodynamics discusses the chemicals with biological receptors, and pharmacokinetics discusses the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of chemicals from the biological systems.

Pharmacology is not synonymous with pharmacy and the two terms are frequently confused. Pharmacology, a biomedical science, deals with the research, discovery, and characterization of chemicals which show biological effects and the elucidation of cellular and organismal function in relation to these chemicals. In contrast, pharmacy, a health services profession, is concerned with the application of the principles learned from pharmacology in its clinical settings; whether it be in a dispensing or clinical care role. In either field, the primary contrast between the two is their distinctions between direct-patient care, pharmacy practice, and the science-oriented research field, driven by pharmacology.

NURS-FPX4055: Health Promotion Research

NURS-FPX4055: Health Promotion Research

Introduction

This first assessment is the research and background information for the presentation you will give in your last assessment. Consider this the nursing process for your chosen community (assessment, diagnostics, planning, interventions, and evaluation). The first step in any effective project or clinical patient encounter is planning. This assessment provides an opportunity for you to plan a learning experience focused on health promotion associated with the specific community health concern you selected from the provided document. Such a plan defines the critical elements of who, what, when, where, and why that establish the foundation for an effective clinical learning experience for the participants. Completing this assessment will strengthen your understanding of how to plan and negotiate individual or group participation. The two windshield survey worksheets will be critical steps in completing this assessment. This assessment is the foundation for the implementation of Assessment 4, Health Promotion Plan Presentation.

Note: Assessment 1 must be completed first before you are able to submit Assessment 4. Complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

Preparation

Be sure you’ve completed the Windshield Survey Worksheet 1: Assess Your Community and Windshield Survey Worksheet 2: Tour Your Community activities. Then complete this assessment as if within a neighborhood or community of your choice. Your community, which will become the focus of your health promotion plan, could be something like the elderly housing center, high school, or your own neighborhood. It could even be a subset of or an individual within that community, for instance, one of the students at the high school or a resident at the elderly housing center.

Instructions

Complete the following:

  • Assess your chosen community to include socioeconomic and demographic data such as location, lifestyle, age, race, ethnicity, gender, marital status, income, education, employment. (Complete the windshield surveys first.)
  • Choose a specific health concern or health need from the Assessment 1 Supplement: Health Promotion Research [PDF] as the focus of your health promotion plan for your chosen community. Then, analyze a population within your community with the health concern or need you’ve chosen to focus on and the best practices for health improvement, based on supporting evidence. Consider underlying assumptions and points of uncertainty in your analysis.
  • Describe in detail the characteristics of your chosen community who will be the audience for the activity you are planning and how those characteristics are relevant to what you’ve learned about the targeted population. Describe in detail the relevant information of who within this community is affected by your chosen health issue.
  • Explain why the population you are focusing on in your community is predisposed to this health concern or health need and why they can benefit from a health promotion educational plan. Consider the factors that contribute to health, health disparities, and access to services. Support your conclusions with relevant population health and demographic data.
    • Based on the health concern for your individual or group, discuss what you would include in the development of a sociogram. Take into consideration possible social, economic, cultural, genetic, and/or lifestyle behaviors that may have an impact on health as you develop your educational plan in this assessment. You will take this information into consideration when you present your educational plan in Assessment 4.
  • Identify your chosen individual’s or group’s potential learning needs. Imagine the input of your audience if you were collaborating with the individual or group to establish the SMART goals that would be used to evaluate the education session (Assessment 4).
    • Identify the individual or group’s current behaviors, outline clear expectations for this educational session, and offer suggestions for how the individual or group needs can be met. Health promotion goals need to be clear, measurable, and appropriate for this activity and audience. Consider goals that will foster behavior changes and lead to the desired outcomes.

Be sure to apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references exhibiting nearly flawless adherence to APA format.

  • Write with a specific purpose and audience in mind.
  • Adhere to scholarly and disciplinary writing standards and APA formatting requirements.

Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion in the scoring guide to see how your work will be assessed.

Additional Requirements

Your assessment should also meet the following requirements:

  • Document format and length: Your health promotion plan should be 4–6 pages in length.
  • Supporting evidence: Support your health promotion plan with peer-reviewed articles, course study resources, and Healthy People 2030 resources. Cite at least three credible sources published within the past 5 years using APA format.
  • Before submitting your assessment for grading, proofread it to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it difficult for them to focus on the substance of your plan.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 1: Analyze health risks and healthcare needs among distinct populations.
    • Analyze a population within a chosen community with a health concern or need that is the focus of a health promotion plan.
    • Describe in detail the characteristics of a chosen community who will be the audience for a health promotion and how those characteristics are relevant to a larger target community.
  • Competency 2: Propose health promotion strategies to improve the health of populations.
    • Explain why a health concern or need is important for health promotion within a community and population, supporting conclusions with relevant population health and demographic data.
    • Establish health goals appropriate for a chosen individual or group of participants that are realistic, measurable, and attainable.
  • Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead health promotion and improve population health.
    • Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions; contains few errors in grammar/punctuation, word choice, and spelling.
    • Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references, exhibiting nearly flawless adherence to APA format.

The Healthcare Environment And Financial Statements”

Healthcare Environment /Financial Statements

Health care financial managers stand between the company’s real assets and the financial markets where the firm raises the firm’s cash.
The responsible financial manager will not fixate on short-term financial gain for the shareholder, but rather concentrate on the long-term
interests of the company. The maximizing shareholder value approach means that decisions about strategy and tactics are based primarily
on financial considerations.

  1. With the mission of maximizing shareholder value in mind, how could the health care financial manager help to motivate a large group
of employees to exceptional performance? Explain in detail.
  2. Should the financial manager have any influence on care mapping within the organization? Why, or why not, and give rationale.

After posting your response, respond to two other peers’ posts. Do you agree or disagree with their posts and why?

QUESTION 1

The “theory-practice gap,” as some have called it, has prevented our profession from full utilization of its knowledge base in practice, and has impeded the view of nursing as a theoretically based discipline, to its detriment. There are distinctly different viewpoints to this argument, based on the different perspectives of academics and theoreticians on the one hand and that of practitioners on the other. Being honest about your reaction, and applying critical thinking skills to the question, where do you stand on the issue, and why?

QUESTION 2

Barriers have existed, especially in the past, which have impeded the work necessary to develop the knowledge base of nursing. Many of these barriers are related to issues of gender and knowledge in a female-dominated profession like nursing. What are your views on the way in which gender has inhibited our growth as a knowledge-based profession and the view others have of our professional status?

QUESTION 3

Conduct a literature search based on Barbara Barnum’s discussion of the theory elements of content, context, and process. Pick one of these and discuss how it may be applied to your own practice.

QUESTION 4

The development of the discipline of nursing has gone through many stages of philosophical debates. Justify the relevance and utility of the knowledge of theory development to your practice.

NURS 350

NURS 350

NURS 350

This week, you will submit summaries of quantitative and qualitative studies. The purpose of this assignment is to become familiar with published research, research designs, and methodologies. For the assignment, you will select two original or primary research studies: one quantitative research study and one qualitative study related to the field of nursing. You will write an abstract of each study.

The selected articles should be original research studies.

Review articles, concept analysis, meta-analysis, meta-synthesis, integrative review, and systemic review should NOT be used.

Mixed-methods studies should not be used.

Your abstracts should begin with the APA Style reference to the research article that is reviewed

Your abstracts should be written in your own words. (The abstracts within the studies your choose will not answer all of the assignment questions.)

Your abstracts should be accurate, brief, clear, between 150–250 words, and include only the most essential information.

Use current APA Style to format your paper and to cite your sources.

You are required to attach both research studies (the full articles) that you use to write your abstracts. The original research study articles may be copied onto a Word document or saved in a PDF format.

NOTE: Because submission of the original articles is part of the assignment requirements and is necessary for grading, any assignment submitted without the accompanying articles will be considered incomplete. according to NURS 350 Assignment Quantitative and Qualita An incomplete assignment will be initially assigned a zero. The student has the opportunity to submit articles to complete the assignment. However, if these are submitted after the due date and time, the late penalty will apply. After five days, submissions will not be accepted per University policy, and the grade will remain a zero.

Address the following questions in each of your abstracts:

1. What type of research is it (quantitative, qualitative)?

2. What was the research question(s) or hypothesis?

3. What is the sample (population), the sample size, and sample attributes (characteristics)?

4. What is the setting (facility type, location, and country) of the study?

5. What were the researcher’s results and findings? (Identify one that clearly measures the dependent variable or objective of the research.)

Review the rubric for further information on how your assignment will be graded.

What is qualitative research, and why does it matter?
NURS 350 Assignment Quantitative and Qualita confirms that Qualitative research is seen to be especially well suited to exploratory research (e.g. during the pilot stage of a research project, for example). It is primarily used to learn more about individual experiences, views, attitudes, and trends, as well as to delve deeper into the topic at hand.

A qualitative researcher’s data gathering toolbox is fairly diverse, spanning from entirely unstructured to semi-structured procedures.

The most often used Qualitative Research Methods:
Interviews with individuals
Discussions in groups
Focus groups are small groups of people who come together to
Observations on behavior
Interview

How Does Eye Tracking Work and What Is It?
Individual examples and subjective experiences are typically the focus of qualitative research. This necessitates an iterative study design, in which data collection and research questions are updated as new information becomes available.

Frequently, qualitative projects are conducted with a small number of participants and are intended to provide insight into the context of an issue, as well as serve as a source of inspiration for ideas for following quantitative investigations.

What is quantitative research, and how can it be assessed?
Quantitative research is all about numbers and figures, to put it simply. It is used to quantify opinions, attitudes, behaviors, and other identified factors in order to confirm or reject hypotheses regarding a specific phenomenon, as well as to potentially contextualize the study sample’s findings in a larger community (or specific groups).

accordimng to NURS 350 Assignment Quantitative and Qualita, Quantitative data collection is considered to be considerably more structured than qualitative data collection since quantitative research expressly describes what is measured and how it is measured in order to find patterns in – for example – behavior, motivation, emotion, and cognition.

See How to Do Behavioral Coding in iMotions for further information.
Techniques of quantitative research
Questionnaires and surveys, organized interviews, and behavioral observation based on explicit coding and categorization schemes are all examples of quantitative approaches.

survey

Biosensor recordings such as eye tracking, EEG, EDA / GSR, EMG, and ECG, as well as computer-guided automatic facial expression analysis processes, are used in addition to these classic techniques.

See What Is Facial Expression Analysis? for more information. (How Does It Work, Anyway?)
All of these methods quantify behavioral processes in such a way that numerical results can be obtained – for example, eye tracking fixation duration (which represents the amount of visual attention), the number of GSR peaks (which indicates the amount of physiological arousal), or the power of a specific EEG band.

Take a look at these infographics: Measuring, analyzing, and comprehending human behavior is the study of human behavior.

Non-parametric methods can be subjected to quantitative analytic techniques and statistics, such as t-tests and ANOVAs, after data gathering. In comparison to qualitative research, this frequently demands considerably larger sample sizes, but it allows you to draw more solid conclusions that are supported by facts.

Is it better to do a qualitative or quantitative research study?
NURS 350 Assignment Quantitative and Qualita states that In the end, the option to do a qualitative or quantitative study is yours to make; however, you should base your selection on the nature of your project, the type of information you need, and the resources available to you. Qualitative research will provide you with a deeper understanding of your research challenge and, perhaps, will assist you in answering your hypothesis. Quantitative research will enable you to scale your study to produce larger sets of data for dependability and validity. You can achieve objectivity by combining the two.

Measurements that are free of bias
The following criteria are used to characterize this in general:

Objectivity
The most general condition is objectivity, which means that no matter who uses the measures, they should provide the same outcome. They should also produce the same results regardless of external circumstances. A multiple-choice personality questionnaire or survey, for example, is objective if the results are the same whether the individual responds vocally or in writing. Furthermore, the outcome should be independent of the experimenter’s knowledge or attitude, so that the results are solely based on the respondent’s performance.

Reliability
according to NURS 350 Assignment Quantitative and Qualita, when a measure gives the same value under consistent conditions, it is considered to have high reliability. Reliability is divided into various subcategories. For example, “retest reliability” refers to a measure’s consistency over time, “inter-rater reliability” to the extent that different experimenters give consistent estimates of the same behavior, and “split-half reliability” to the extent that the two parts of a test produce identical results.

Validity
This is the most important and last requirement. It reflects how well a measure collects the information it is designed to collect. Consider a study that collects data on body size in order to determine its association with happiness. Obviously, the measure is objective and dependable (body size measurements are very consistent regardless of who does the test), but it is a poor measure for happiness construct validity (i.e., its capacity to really capture the underlying variable).
