WOMEN’S HEALTH 1 Dilsy Ricardo Florida National University Nursing Department BSN Program NUR 4636 – Community Health Nursing Prof. Eddie Cruz, RN MSN November 5, 2019 WOMEN’S HEALTH 2 WOMEN’S HEALTH The world health organization plays a vital role in health in the global community. The organization focuses on determining health issues in vulnerable populations. Women’s health is critical, and the World health organization puts more effort into eliminating health challenges affecting women (Nies, Mary A. et al. 2015). As there is a massive increase in the women population, there is a need to promote health and the delivery of adequate health care services. The world health organization is determined to mitigate environmental factors that could increase the risks of women’s health in the global community. Several practices that improve lifestyle are implemented in communities to protect the women population against diseases and to promote quality health. According to the world health organization, health should be within reach of every individual. Every person has the right to good health. The communities, families, and individuals have all the rights to good health and effective health care services. The organization believes that every person should be healthy for social and economic productivity. There should be no inequalities and unfairness in matters concerning health in any community around the globe. The organization also thinks that health should be within reach of every person, and then the district must be involved. Every sector involved in the delivery of health services should be ready to participate actively. As stated by the world health organization, people’s health care is the delivery of the first level of health care to different individuals in the community. Vital services that can help in promoting healthy living should be implemented or delivered for every individual. There should be availability and easy access to health care services for the people. Individuals WOMEN’S HEALTH 3 should actively get involved in matters on health, to increase better healthy lifestyles. Since people have the right to health care, they should not be denied any quality care that they need. NUR4636 10 Protecting Women Response
The health care providers should provide quality care to groups of individuals as a way of preventing diseases in the communities. Community health nursing has essential roles to play in international health care. They help to ensure that every member of the community efficiently gets access to health care services. Community health nursing makes sure that there is the protection of diseases and the promotion of quality health in a population. Community health nursing also plays a role in different researches. It is a way of effectively assessing, monitoring, and evaluating the health of a community. It helps in implementing strategies that can improve health in communities. These practices could include emergency responses during a disease outbreak or terror attacks (Swider, S. M.et al. 2017). The community health nursing in the international health care also ensures a collaborative force among all the nurses. It is a way of ensuring better understanding and effective communication among nurses as they learn from one another. Community health nursing provides strategies in which the nurses can reach the vulnerable population and any groups of people that are hard-to-reach in different parts of the community. As nurses move to these areas, they assist in preventing diseases and saving lives. Community health nursing also educates the nurses on how to use the limited available resources so that there can be an equal distribution of health care services. Community health care nursing also arranges teamwork on health care delivery with the health care personnel and community leaders. As they work together, they tend to WOMEN’S HEALTH 4 understand different factors that lead to diseases in the community. Conversely, they work in these areas as they prepare for an emergency. It also works towards utilizing any different change in the human environment to predict what the nurses should be doing. When they feel that the environment has a given risk factor, they use the risk to form the nursing role in a particular population (Pijl-Zieber, E. M. et al. 2015). Community health care nursing works towards the use of advanced technology due to the evolving modern society. It is a means of improving the methods and approaches used in health care delivery. The use of technology also ensures quick responses in emergencies. The health of women is of significant concern in the country. There is a need to help in preventing diseases and accidents among women. Similarly, educating women on selfcare is an essential way of promoting quality health. If women can identify risks related to different conditions, then it would be easier for fast responses to treat diseases. Women also need to be educated on taking responsibility for their health. These could include living a healthy lifestyle and even regular medical check-ups. The nurses have the responsibility of ensuring that women get access to proper health care services. Life expectancy is an example of a significant indicator of women’s health. The mortality rate in women is high due to diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are considered as fatal diseases that lead to many deaths in women. These diseases include high blood pressure and other heart diseases. Cancer is another disease that increases the mortality rate in women. With the significant change of living lifestyles, women have developed cancer diseases. The consumption of unhealthy foods is the primary cause of diseases. The presence of carcinogenic substances and radiation in the environment also results in WOMEN’S HEALTH 5 cancer diseases. Industrial pollutants are also other substances that, when introduced in the environment, can cause cancer in the women population. Diabetes deaths have increased, causing loss of death. Many women at younger ages die due to the disease. A significant number of women have been identified to be at risk of the disease. Poor living lifestyle among women leads to the disease. The consumption of unhealthy foods and lack of physical exercise promotes obesity, which causes diabetes. There is limited access to reproductive health care leading to infections. Diseases such as cysts, fistula, and cervical cancer are promoted due to poor reproductive health care. These diseases are critical, and when not responded to at their early stages, they cause deaths. Morbidity rates in women are higher as compared to men. A significant number of women get hospitalized every year. Since women are not as active as men, they tend to develop chronic infections. Lack of physical exercise among women increases the risks of diseases. Due to reproductive problems, the rate of surgeries in women is higher as compared to that in men. Women undergo depression, starting from post-maternal depression, which causes mental health problems. There are five steps in the nursing process. These steps include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Boehmer, U. et al. 2015). During primary prevention, the nurses work towards identifying and assessing risk for diseases in women’s health. NUR4636 10 Protecting Women Response
The nurses diagnose women’s health and come up with the best behaviors to reduce risks. The nurses would educate women on safe sex practices, WOMEN’S HEALTH 6 healthy eating habits, limiting alcohol consumption, and drug use. The women are also advised on staying active to maintain good health. In secondary prevention, planning and implementation occur. The women are asked to undergo regular screening and check-ups to enhance quality health. Women get screened for cervical cancer and sexually transmitted diseases. The women are also educated on how to carry out self-screening for breast cancer to avoid chronic infections. In tertiary prevention, evaluation is done. The women get trained on how to care for themselves and also to use the available resources to maintain good health. Awareness of the adverse effects of different diseases is facilitated so that they may know the outcome of their actions. References WOMEN’S HEALTH 7 Boehmer, U., Ozonoff, A., & Potter, J. (2015). Running head: COMMUNITY 1 Lisandra Alejo Florida National University Nursing Department BSN Program NUR 4636 – Community Health Nursing Prof. Eddie Cruz, RN MSN November 6, 2019 COMMUNITY 2 1. Mention and discuss the World Health Organization’s concepts of “health for all” and primary health care. “Health for All” refers to the ability to bring health close to everyone’s reach within a nation. According to WHO, health is a state of complete mental, physical, and social wellbeing of a patient. Health for all occurs when there are no obstacles to health. That is a community free from ignorance, malnutrition, unhygienic housing, and contaminated water for domestic use. Health for all means an enough supply of doctors, drugs, vaccines, and hospital beds (Silberberg & Martinez, 2019). According to WHO, health for all entails the authorities taking health as an objective to achieving desired economic development. They also define health for all as literacy for all humans. Health services should also be available and accessible to every individual through primary health care. Primary health care means that medical help is available in villages and backed up through referral services to specialized care centers. The WHO dictates that health for all should include the idea of immunization (Silberberg & Martinez, 2019). In general, the WHO’s understanding of health for all and primary health care calls for efforts in all sectors of development. That is industry, housing, agriculture, education, communication, and technology. According to their definitions, it is impossible to achieve holistic care through medical care alone. It calls for the community, public health departments, and the authorities to look at the issue differently. It implies continuous commitment towards advancing health for all citizens. COMMUNITY 3 2. Describe the role of the community or public health nursing in international health. Nursing plays an essential role in the health of the international community. As a result of the globalization effects, a lot of changes happened in the nursing field. That led to the creation of health promotion actions that helped to reverse the negative trends. First, nursing plays a vital role in defining health from clinical views. In clinical observations, nurses would focus on health issues based on the problem, that is, a disease, pathology, or poor health (Silberberg & Martinez, 2019). They would pay less attention to the cause of the problem. For the nurses to fit in the globalized economy, they must understand these causes as well as the political economy of health. The global community of nurses makes it easy to share experience concerning certain illnesses. As a result, community nursing helps to promote health education globally. With the internet, nurses can share tips on care and prevention of diseases, as well as healthy living. The information is available to individuals from across the globe. Community nurses contribute significantly to patients’ care international health through disease prevention (Silberberg & Martinez, 2019). Community nurses must prevent and control the spread of infection. Most of the everyday activities are in West Africa, where Ebola is a typical outbreak. Nurses across the globe come together intending to provide care for patients living in these regions. Today’s nursing entails research. Through research, community nurses can devise mechanisms through which they develop better health services for the international community. Although nurses are making great COMMUNITY 4 sacrifices for the success of the programs, the authorities need to make better connectivity between foreign policies and community health. 3. Identify and discuss the major indicators of women’s health. Women’s health is critical for the development and growth of a population. In the third and second world countries, women’s health remains of interest. That is so, as the people in these nations suffer from economic and educational disadvantages, which results in unsafe sex practices and vulnerability to transactional sex (Knoblauch, 2018). Also, this results in an increased number of females who test HIV positive. According to WHO, there are several indicating factors to the health of the women. Scientific studies identify natural resource management and development projects as a significant indicator of women’s health (Knoblauch, 2018). If there is adequate management of the health risks, this would have a positive impact on women’s health. Another indicator of women’s health is the continuous monitoring of a mother’s health outcome. That is, medical professionals should remain cautious of the findings of an illness. NUR4636 10 Protecting Women Response
Also, maternal health status does affect the state of women’s health. The WHO is fighting to ensure that all nations across the globe continue to offer free medical attendance for all pregnant mothers. That is before and after delivery of the pregnancy. Cancer levels should also be an indicator of women’s health, with breast and cervical cancer being the leading infections among women. COMMUNITY 5 4. Mention and apply the nursing process to women’s health concerns across all levels of prevention. At the teenage level, there is an increased risk for girls to catch early pregnancies. Giving teenagers adolescent vaccinations should help women fight against human Papillomavirus disease in the future (Eliason, 2019). Nurses should also consider educating these girls on the importance of a proper diet, exercise, and control of drug abuse. Pap smear from the age of 21 should start for all sexually active girls. It is also good to measure BMI and STI screening. Much of the nursing practices to women’s health revolve around childbearing stages. In this case, nurses need to pay much attention to a mother’s reproductive health. That is from contraception, pregnancy to birth effects on a mother’s physical and mental health. The primary risk that nurses should aim to prevent is polycystic ovarian syndrome. Also, there should be increased concerns on the risk of autoimmune disorders among women of ages 30-40 years. Such complications include multiple sclerosis, thyroid disease, systemic lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis (Eliason, 2019). Nurses should also consider taking more care for the women to prevent pre-, peri, or postmenopausal disorders among women of middle ages. According to the WHO, mental health is an issue that nurses should consider evaluating at all stages of a woman. These disorders can result from hormones, difficult health situations, and genetics. As a result, community nurses should encourage women to take regular checkups for depression, anxiety, among other mental disorders. COMMUNITY 6 References Eliason, E.
