An average of about 36,000 people per year in the United States die from influenza, and 114,000 per year have to be admitted to the hospital as a result of influenza infection A total of 244 deaths registered in the State of Florida among the adults population from influenza virus, a total of 233 children died from influenza virus and 30 pregnant women died from influenza in the State of Florida (Florida health ,2017-2018) MAPIT Assess: Affected Population • Located in Riviera Beach Florida . The main reason this group selected this specific group was because they have been identified as potential risk for the influenza virus • In Riviera Beach 96.5% of participants did not receive the flu vaccine in the previous season • From 35 participants only 10 of them received Flu Vaccine ( OPPHP, 2018) MAPIT Plan: Project Goal • Increase flu vaccinated rates among Haitian Population in this area • Teach the importance of influenza vaccine • Discuss benefits and consequences MAPIT Assess: Needs of the Community • Riviera Beach has areas where low income and dilapidated housing is a major concern. • High crime areas prevent locals to attend many community functions. • Riviera Beach has few hospitals and Urgent care clinics with easy access.. • Resources are available but language barriers and cultural skepticism prevent the Haitian Community from benefitting. • A mobile vaccination unit during peak months of the flu season is warranted. (Company, 2018).
