Drawing from Chapter 8 on group rituals, symbolism, and collective identity, identify and analyze contemporary rituals and/or totemic symbols that reflect a continued human longing for connection, belonging, and “tribal” communal meaning.
Instructions:
* Identify at least eight (8) contemporary rituals and/or totemic symbols.
* You may include African and African diasporic cultural rituals or symbols if you choose.
* You may use bullet points, but each item must include a clear description and explanation (3–5 sentences minimum per item).
For each item, address the following:
Name the ritual or symbol
Describe what it represents (identity, status, transition, unity, spirituality, protection, aesthetics, etc.)
Explain its function or purpose in society
Connect to one or more concepts from Chapter 8 (e.g., totemism, rites of passage, belonging, collective identity, symbolic communication, initiation, social cohesion, cultural preservation, etc.)
Examples (not to be used as your eight):
* Brides wearing white at weddings — symbolizing purity and transition
* Tattoos/piercings — identity, initiation, and symbolic marking
* Fraternity/Sorority rituals — collective bonding, initiation, lifelong affiliation
Formatting & Expectations:
