Treatment of Social Anxiety Disorder Assignment
Social Anxiety Disorder Assignment Abstract
Social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia, is an anxiety disorder experienced by individuals who have a severe and unreasonable fear of social situations. The persistent and irrational fear of being closely watched or judged by other people makes this a significant feature of social anxiety disorder because most sufferers are afraid of being evaluated negatively by others. Different types of research methods have been carried out to examine this chronic mental health condition because the negative effects of social anxiety disorder on sufferers’ daily lives is
getting progressively worse. Hence, researchers are constantly looking for new and effective ways to treat this disorder. This paper explores three published articles that take psychotherapy and medications into account to study the effectiveness of social anxiety disorder treatments. The articles highlight the use of cognitive behavioral treatments (CBT) to determine whether the severity of a patient’s social anxiety increases or decreases after the treatment is over. According to the British Psychological Society & The Royal College of Psychiatrists (2013), psychological interventions such as CBT teaches patients how to relax and also improve their social skills by
placing an emphasis on the patients’ negative self beliefs. Medications such as beta blockers are also used to block the physical symptoms of social anxiety by preventing the flow of epinephrine (Bressert, 2018). This paper analyzes multiple techniques used to treat social anxiety disorder so individuals do not feel paralyzed by this ever-prevalent mental health condition.
