DQ1 Dissemination of EBP and research, such as presenting results at a conference or writing an article for a journal, is an important part of professional practice. Identify one professional journal and one nursing or health care conference where you might present your project. Discuss why each of your choices is the best option for you to disseminate your new knowledge. DQ2 Discuss why EBP is an essential component of the practice of a BSN-prepared RN. Identify two ways in which you will continue to integrate evidence into your practice and encourage it within your work environment. What obstacles could challenge this plan, and what steps will you take to minimize their impact? Topics The capstone project change proposal will be presented to an interprofessional group of leaders. A final summary of the reflective journal entries will allow students to self-reflect on the process of developing an evidence-based change proposal. Students will apply concepts related to self-awareness, synthesis, and integration of new knowledge and skills in their nursing practice. Objectives: 1. Present the capstone project change proposal to an interprofessional group of leaders. 2. Demonstrate interprofessional collaboration in the dissemination of the capstone project change proposal. 3. Demonstrate achievement of the course objectives in the written completion of the Individual Success Plan (ISP). 4. Integrate self-reflective practice in summarizing the practicum reflective journal entries. With the use of PPE being a topic of interest with the new virus and a pandemic, health care workers are looking for information on the use and re-use of PPE. The perception of PPE by nurses affects the way they use it and a journal article that provides rationale, evidence and education about the proper use and ways to re-use PPE can be beneficial. Nurses and health care workers can research the latest articles on COVID-19 and have access to information on the use of PPE and its re-use, if necessary. NRS 493: Nursing Journals Questions
This makes it the best option for disseminating information on PPE and may increase compliance with its use by healthcare workers. Many nursing conferences are now virtual with the pandemic and access to the conferences is available without having to travel to attend. The Nursing World Conference would be a way to get information about the latest infection control practices in a time of pandemic. There is a session about nurse protection during the COVID-19 outbreak. PPE use can be discussed as a way to protect nurses and rationale can be provided on its correct use. This virtual conference would be the best option for safely disseminating information to nurses who are seeking education during the time of pandemic. References Nursing virtual 2020. (n.d.). The intent is to spread knowledge and associated evidence-based interventions(Communications, 2012). Ideally, the choice for journal selection should be based on the audience that that would most benefit from learning about the research(Edwards, 2015). I would present my research findings and updates about neonatal hypothermia to The Journal of Neonatal Nursing. “This is the practical, bimonthly, research-based journal for professionals concerned with the care of neonates and their families, both in the hospital and the community. It aims to support the development of the essential practice, management, education, and health promotion skills required by these professionals”(Altimier & Boyle, 2020). The JNN will provide a forum for the exchange of my ideas and information between the range of professionals working in this field; promote cooperation of these professionals; facilitate partnership care with families; provide information and informed opinion; promote innovation and change in the care of neonates and their families; and provide an education resource for this important rapidly developing field. All articles are critically reviewed by professionals working in the appropriate field(Altimier & Boyle, 2020). The professional journal I would submit my research of neonatal hypothermia would be the Academic Journal of Pediatrics & Neonatology. This is an international peer-reviewed open access journal that deals with the publication of papers on health and medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The journal accepts high quality submissions presented as an original research article, review articles, short communications, case reports, mini-review, opinions, letters to editor etc., in all areas of pediatric research. Through a meticulous process of peer review, the Journal of Pediatrics & Neonatology strives to publish pediatric research of the highest value for pediatric healthcare professionals (AJPN, 2015). Dissemination refers to a planned process that involves consideration of target audiences and the settings in which research findings are to be received and, where appropriate, communicating and interacting with broader policy and service audiences in ways that will facilitate research uptake in decision-making processes and practice (Edwards, 2015). A variety of approaches are available for disseminating research findings. Still, by far, the most common are publications in biomedical journals (discussed in detail later in this article) and presentations at professional meetings (Edwards, 2015). The professional journal to present my project is gerontology because my project focuses on preventing falls among the elderly who live in nursing homes. Currently, almost all conferences virtual or with a few people in the conference room with social distancing. To present my research, different nursing homes would be the best place to present the study. This project’s primary goal is to make awareness among residents, families, and the whole team in a facility. However, to keep these residents safe, a virtual meeting would be the best way if a conference is needed. Reference Edwards D. J. (2015). Disseminating EBP and research is important to the health care field to spread knowledge and potential practices that could be applied in other areas to improve health care as a whole. Health care today is only what it is due to the dissemination of previous systems and evidence-based practice projects which proves that it is an effective strategy to continue to move health care forward. One professional journal that I would choose to present my project is CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing. This journal focuses on the implementation of technology in the nursing profession and the health care setting and provides others’ knowledge and experiences based on that. One health care conference that I would present my project in is the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society global health conference & exhibition. This conference is to provide education topics and spread knowledge to other areas of the health care field. Although my project is basic compared to the other topics in this conference, I believe that it would be important to share my EBP project for those who are in the long-term care setting. Ways to integrate evidence-based practice into a work environment are to have patient-centered goals NRS 493: Nursing Journals Questions
Education can be given to nurses as to the best evidence-based practices for patients that are being cared for on the unit. Making nurse’s part of the decision making when introducing new practices can encourage them to trouble-shoot any issues and brainstorm the best ways to overcome obstacles. Support for the change by the organization and nurse managers can make the change process more effective and being a part of committees that educate nurses on evidence-based practices is an important way to begin implementation of the newest practices. Barriers to the integration of evidence-based practice are lack of resources and heavy workloads. With planning, resources can be arranged and made available prior to implementing the new changes. The heavy workloads of nurses can make them hesitant to make the needed changes and support from management and the organization can provide ways to reduce the workloads as nurses are implementing the evidence-based practices. Bringing in extra staff and support staff can help nurses implement changes for the best care of their patients. References, Kueny, A., Shever, L., Lehan Mackin, M., & Titler, M. (2015). Nurses and other healthcare professionals who utilize this approach must consider the most recent healthcare research when determining the course of care and treatment(Mississippi, 20170. Colleges and universities have altered their BSN program curriculum to incorporate EBP. Students pursuing their degree, even through accelerated online RN-BSN programs, will find coursework that focuses not only on the nurses overall knowledge base, but also on the importance of professional accountability. These programs emphasize critical thinking skills and encourage students to consider the patient’s clinical, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as relevant scientific research. Evidence-based practice has become an integral component of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Nursing students in an RN to BSN program will learn EBP theories and apply this knowledge in their careers. Offering benefits to both patients and nurses, evidence-based practice is helping to lead the way in advancing patient care(Mississippi, 2017). In nursing we have probably all been using EBP for a long time, maybe without even realizing it. We most likely have been: 1. Form a clinical question to identify a problem. 2. Gather the best evidence. Gather what unit-based resources we have to help solve the issue. 3. Analyze the evidence. As the interdisciplinary team gets involved to do the same. 4.Apply the evidence to clinical practice. Everyone on the same page applying same practice 5. Assess the result. Everyone comes together with outcomes observed. The organization must have the adaptation and willingness to adopt the culture for change and best practice. This can be the biggest challenge. Letting everyone get involved and have input increases a positive work relationship therefore creating a culture that promotes best care. Reference: Mississippi College. (2017, September 6).
